Promising UFC lightweight Al Iaquinta says he doesn't know if he'll fight again, despite a recent win over Diego Sanchez in Nashville.
Iaquinta (13-3-1) has looked like a potential title contender since signing with the UFC in 2012, but the 29-year-old says lack of pay and disrespect has him considering retirement.
Shortly after his first-round knockout over Sanchez last weekend, Iaquinta wrote a post that said, "go f--- yourself" to the UFC's official Twitter account. He directed that same sentiment to UFC president Dana White on Monday, during an appearance on "The MMA Hour."
"[White] is going to say that 'the best part is the ride home'?" Iaquinta said. "Shut the f--- up. Are you kidding me? Go f--- yourself. Don't ever talk about a fighter like that. You're not a fighter. You don't do it. You don't know."
Iaquinta's comments were in reference to a statement White made earlier this year regarding a UFC 208 pay-per-view event in Brooklyn.
Speaking to UFC.com after that event, White admitted he was disappointed in the way the fights played out and that the best part of the night was the flight back to his home state of Las Vegas.
This is not the first time that Iaquinta, of New York, has spoken out publicly against his promoter. Late last year, Iaquinta turned down an offer to fight Thiago Alves at UFC 205 in Madison Square Garden due to a contract holdout.
At that time, Iaquinta told ESPN that his contract included a base pay of $26,000, plus an additional $26,000 win bonus. Iaquinta, a vocal supporter of fighter unionization, said he couldn't accept a fight for that amount of money and has been working as a real estate agent for income. Prior to the Sanchez bout, he hadn't fought since April 2015.
On Saturday, Iaquinta said he accepted the Sanchez fight under his old contract for the sake of competition. His tweet directed at the UFC went up later, after he found out he had not received one of the promotion's traditional $50,000 fight night bonuses.
"I don't know if the money's worth everything I go through to do this," said Iaquinta on Saturday. "It worked out tonight, but it's not going to be that easy. There's a lot of years lost that I'm not making any money, and I'm not making sponsorship. I'm in the [UFC] video game, and I haven't gotten a dollar for it."
